72 HOUR SURVIVAL KIT

Are you ready?

Basic Kit

Do you have sufficient food, water and other necessities at home to take care of yourself for 72 hours? Here's a shopping list that may be of help:

  • Water - 2 to 4 litres of water/person/day (Remember: water is needed for drinking, cooking & cleaning). Include some small bottles that can be transported easily in case of evacuation.
  • Food - non-perishable - consider canned and dried foods, energy bars, etc.

    Water & food should be stored in a dry place and replaced once a year

  • Can opener (manual)
  • Flashlight & batteries
  • Radio - battery operated or crank radio
  • First Aid Kit
  • Cash - small bills & loose change
  • Keys - extra set of house & car keys
  • Special needs items
  • Important papers/documents
  • Personal hygiene items (toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, hand sanitizer)
  • Medication
  • Change of clothing & footware
  • Sleeping bag or blanket
  • Small fuel-driven stove & fuel (Follow manufacturer's instructions regarding storage & use and remember to NEVER use inside the house!)
  • Garbage bags
