DOWNTOWN PORT PERRY HERITAGE CONSERVATION DISTRICT STUDY & APPROVED PLAN
The Township of Scugog had considered the introduction of a Heritage Conservation District (HCD) for the Downtown Port Perry area. A HCD comprises an area with a group of buildings and properties that possess a concentration of heritage resources with special character or historical association that distinguishes it from its surroundings.
When the HCD designation by-law is enacted, most external alterations and additions, new construction and building demolition within the district area will require permission from the Township. The approval or denial of a permit will be determined in accordance with the approved guidelines and district plan.
On August 30, 2010, the General Purpose and Administration Committee of Council adopted the recommendations of Staff Report No. PLAN-2010-43-GP&A to endorse the proposed Downtown Port Perry Heritage Conservation District boundary and adopt the associated Heritage Conservation District Plan.
Council approved the Downtown Port Perry Heritage Conservation District Plan on September 27, 2010 with slight modifications to the district boundaries.
