FIRE PREVENTION


The Fire Prevention division is managed by the Chief Fire Prevention Officer Gord Gettins.

The Fire Prevention division performs the following function:

  • Conduct site inspections under the Ontario Fire Code and take necessary action to ensure that compliance is achieved

  • Ensure that Fire Safety Plans are developed by management of industry, schools, daycares, and other facilities as necessary

  • Conduct reviews and approvals of all planning applications to ensure that all matters related to fire safety are addressed and compliance with applicable legislation is achieved

  • Provide comprehensive public fire safety education and training to the general public in order to take an aggressive lead in the reduction of injuries and death due to fire within the Township of Scugog



The following programs are performed or coordinated by the Chief Fire Prevention Officer:

  • Alarmed for Life program

  • School fire drills

  • The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C)

  • Education programs for seniors and children

  • Fire Hall tours

  • Fire Prevention Week activities
