In view of the recent ice storm and resulting major power outages, it’s time to think about being prepared! The Township of Scugog would like to take this time to remind you that it is your responsibility to make sure that you are able to care for your own needs and the needs of your family for 72 hours.
This means that if there is a weather emergency, and the power goes out, it is your responsibility to have the food and other essentials on hand to take care of yourself for 72 hours. Are you prepared?
Do you have a family emergency kit?
Have you made an emergency plan?
In the event of an emergency, please be sure to check on your neighbours and family members to ensure their safety.
The Township of Scugog would also like to take this time to remind you of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. In view of the recent deaths during the ice storm and ensuing power outages, DO NOT use portable generators inside the house or garage. Portable generators should be located carefully to ensure that exhaust fumes do not enter the house. Please ensure that any generator that is used has recognized approved labels and that the unit has proper connection receptacles and circuit breakers. Barbecue and camping cookstoves are for outdoor use only. DO NOT use indoors.
Plan now, before an emergency! For more information, please click here.
