Pitch In Week 2014

To register for this year’s PITCH-IN Week, please click the following link PITCH-IN Week Registration.

In 2013, The Township of Scugog held it's very successful PITCH-IN WEEK. Thousands of Canadians show their civic pride each year, cleaning up local neighbourhoods, ravines, waterways and illegal dump sites. Locally we had over 1000 registered volunteers including schools, Scouts, Cubs & Beavers from Port Perry & Blackstock, service clubs & individuals.

This program is a great way to promote to Canadians the importance of reducing, re-using, recycling and properly disposing of waste as everyone's responsibility. PITCH-IN WEEK involves volunteers in various action programs ranging from initiating waste reduction, recycling and composting programs to cleaning and enhancing shorelines, streams, urban and wilderness areas.

PITCH-IN WEEK 2014 is April 20-26. Plans are underway to make this year's efforts more successful. In order to accomplish this goal the Municipality will be contacting all Schools, Businesses, Organizations, Clubs and Associations to request their participation in this initiative to clean up our environment.

Boulevard Tree Maintenance

The Township of Scugog is committed to protecting and enhancing our urban and rural tree canopy, as trees are an essential part of our community and environment.  Trees reduce the effects of many forms of pollution, create and enhance wildlife habitats, help reduce energy demands on your home, increase property values, and help make our Township beautiful.

As part of this commitment, the Township has identified a need for boulevard tree maintenance for one or more of the following reasons:
- To maintian an aesthetic shape of a tree;
- To remove dead, diseased, or interfering branches;
- To improve the structural integrity and health of the tree;
- To maintain safe clearances over the roadway, sidewalk, or walkway;
- To maintain safe sight lines;
- Other tree canopy management practices.

Commencing the week of March 17, 2014, the Township will be performing one or more of the above maintenance practices in selected areas.  Please click here for the tree maintenance location map.

Please note: based on criteria, not all trees may be pruned in the specified locations.
