The Township of Scugog is committed to improving, enhancing and preserving the historical aspect of our downtown core. To do so, in 1992, the Township adopted the Urban Design Guidelines to address certain issues, in particular, parking, signage, design continuity and pedestrian orientation.

These guidelines are used as a planning guide and are utilized as a complement to the Official Plan, Zoning By-Law and the Site Plan Control process. They provide information on what currently exists and advise on a future rehabilitation strategy to maintain the historical character of our town. Therefore, the guidelines focus mainly on the rehabilitation of the exterior facades viewed day to day by the community.
