COVID-19 Update #13: Township Public Boat Launches will reopen for Victoria Day Weekend

Posted On Friday May 15, 2020

Following the announcement from the Ontario government and in time for the Victoria Day long weekend, Scugog public boat launches will reopen for recreational use and marinas are also permitted to open as of Saturday, May 16, 2020. The public are reminded to maintain 2 metres of physical distance when out in public and as a courtesy, wear a cloth mask in public when physical distancing may be challenging.

“We thank residents for what they have done so far and we expect diligence from our community members to continue to be safe,” said Scugog Mayor Bobbie Drew. “Our Emergency Control Group will review, in more depth, the full nature of Thursday’s announcement, but, we are happy to begin phase one of the reopening plan in time for residents this long weekend.”

The Township is looking forward to reopening boat launches, but, reminds residents this is not a full reopening of all areas. “Residents need to keep practicing physical distancing and stay local, shop locally to stay safe,” said Mayor Drew.

When launching a boat, or on the lake fishing, please maintain the physical distance of 2 metres (6 feet) from others. Only boat with those in your immediate family. Additionally, wear a non-surgical face mask or face covering when physical distancing is not possible, or more challenging, in public settings. Wearing a face mask is not a substitute for physical distancing.

In addition to the reopening of public boat launches in Scugog, the Dog Park will be open to the public on Tuesday, May 19. More details of phase one of the reopening pertaining to other recreational amenities and parks will be released in the coming week. At this time, parks and the pier remain walk-through access only.
