COVID-19 leads Township to cancel 2020 Scugog Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Posted On Wednesday September 02, 2020

The Township of Scugog is postponing the Scugog Sports Hall of Fame’s 2020 Induction Ceremony, which traditionally runs in November, due to the restrictions in place to manage the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“The Scugog Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is a joyous community celebration meant to honour and perpetuate the names and deeds of our local athletes, teams and sponsors whose athletic endeavours have brought fame to our community and to themselves, and of those whose interest in and work for sports has resulted in a climate which has benefited athletes and athletics,” says Sports Hall of Fame committee chair Ryan Rogers.

“With an attention on community health and the worries incumbent with community gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic, the committee believes we should postpone further induction ceremonies until we can assemble safely and give our inductees the proper celebration they deserve.”

The Induction Ceremony is continuously interested in hearing from the community about potential inductees to the Scugog Sports Hall of Fame, or anyone interested in getting more involved with the committee as a member or volunteer.

To contact the Scugog Sports Hall of Fame, or nominate an athlete or builder worthy of induction, visit Scugog.ca/SportsHallofFame, call 905-985-8698 or email recreation@scugog.ca.
