Both accessory and temporary structures must meet the regulations of the Township Zoning By-law. Regulations for these types of structures include:
- Building size
- Lot coverage
- Height (temporary structures)
- Location
- Use of building (accessory structures)
All structures in the Township of Scugog must also meet the regulations of the Township Property Standards By-law, such as:
- Being structurally sound
- Being in good repair
Accessory structures
Accessory structures include:
- Detached garages
- Tool sheds
- Other detached structures with a specific use
Temporary structures
Temporary structures (or portable garages) are often constructed of metal poles with a fabric covering, and are not permanently affixed to the ground. The Ontario Building Code considers this type of structure to be a "tent" and doesn't require a building permit if:
- The size of the structure is not more than 60 m2 (646 ft2);
- The structure does not attach to a building;
- The structure is placed more than 3 m (10 ft) from other structures.
