According to the Township of Scugog Business Licensing By-law, a number of businesses need to have a licence or permit issued by the Township before they can operate. Business licence holders must also comply with the rules and regulations of all related Township by-laws.

Your business licence can be revoked, if you don't follow by-law regulations. You may also face legal charges and have to pay fines of up to $5000, if you don't have the required licence or permit to run your business.

Common business applications, licences and permits:

Adult entertainment parlours

Submit a business licence application to open an adult entertainment parlour in the Township of Scugog. An adult entertainment parlour licence costs $3300 annually and attendant licence is $300 annually.

Clothing donation bins

Apply for clothing donation bin licence. This licence costs $250 annually.

Hawkers and peddlers

According to Township of Scugog's Hawkers and Peddlers By-law, hawkers and peddlers require a licence to operate. Hawkers and peddlers are any person who:

  • Goes door to door and sells goods or carries samples of goods for immediate sale with delivery to follow
  • Sells goods or carries samples of goods for immediate sale with delivery to follow from a permanent structure on a temporary basis
  • Sells goods and has no permanent place of business within the Township of Scugog

Local farmers, craft shows, farmers markets and not-for-profit organizations are not considered hawkers or peddlers.

Apply for a licence

Complete the Hawker and Peddler Application to apply for a licence. A licence costs $260 annually.

Special events

There are separate licences for hawkers and peddlers at special events, such as Canada Day. Complete the Hawker and Peddler Special Events Application to apply for a licence to sell goods at special event in the Township of Scugog. A special events licence costs $100.

Kennels

Kennel owners in the Township of Scugog must follow our Zoning By-law and Kennel By-law. You must complete a Kennel Application Form and include:

  • A site plan of your property, drawn to scale
  • Licensing fee

The annual licensing fee is $250 for new or lapsed licences, and $155 for renewals.

Boarding kennels can board up to 40 dogs and also include a doggy day care and doggy spa.

Breeding kennels are used for breeding dogs of the similar type and use.

Private kennels can't have more than eight dogs and must all belong to the kennel owner.

Refreshment vehicle

According to the Township of Scugog's Refreshment Vehicle By-law, you must have a licence to operate a refreshment vehicle in the Township of Scugog. A Refreshment vehicle is any vehicle or temporary structure used for selling refreshments to the public and includes vehicles that can be move mechanically or manually.

Apply for a licence

Complete the Refreshment Vehicle Application to apply for a licence. It costs $300 annually for a licence.

Special events

There are separate licences for refreshment vehicles at special events, such as Canada Day. Complete the Refreshment Vehicle Special Events Application to apply for a licence for special events in the Township of Scugog. A special events licence costs $100.

Salvage yards and second-hand goods

You must have a licence to operate a salvage yard or to sell second-hand goods in the Township of Scugog. This type of licence can cost up to $220 annually.  Complete the Salvage and Second Hand Goods Application and forward to Bylaw for processing.

Selling Fireworks

You need a permit to sell fireworks in the Township of Scugog. A permit costs $190. Complete the Fireworks Sales Application and forward to Bylaw for processing.
