The Port Perry Business Improvement Association (BIA) was established in 1989, under the Ontario Municipal Act. The Association is made up of commercial and industrial businesses located in downtown Port Perry. The Port Perry BIA, like other Ontario BIAs, is municipally legislated.

What does the BIA do?

Building and store owners in the area (from Mary Street to Simcoe Street and North Street to Water Street) contribute funds, which the elected Port Perry BIA Board of Directors manages. Funds are used to maintain and improve the downtown area, including:

  • Streetscape improvements
  • Seasonal features, such as Christmas lighting and flower baskets
  • Downtown marketing and promotions
  • Community events

The main source of funding is an additional property tax levy paid by commercial property owners (falling within this designated geographic area), making the BIA a self-help program for this specific business community.
