Emerald Ash Borer

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive pest that attacks and kills ash trees in North America. EAB has spread throughout the Township of Scugog since 2009. We expect this infestation to expand to the Township's street ash trees in Port Perry.

We recommend removing heavily infested trees (when more than a third of the crown has died off) for safety reasons and to prevent EAB from spreading. Depending on available resources, the Township removes infested trees all at once or in three stages:

  1. Removal of branches
  2. Removal of trunk down to ground level
  3. Removal of stump

Replacement trees may not be planted at the same time we remove an infested tree.
