As of 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 11 the province entered Step 1 of the Reopening Plan. The plan provides guidance for small businesses, retail and restaurant sector. Please safely support your local shops and restaurants by continuing to follow the health guidelines, wear a mask, maintain 2m (6 ft.) physical distance, sanitize your hands often and be kind to those serving in the community.

In Step 1, all Municipal administration services will continue to be offered by phone or virtually and the document drop box remains available. To connect with staff please use the staff directory at

In Step 1, outdoor gatherings and use of recreation amenities is limited to 10 people. Masks must be worn and physical distance must be maintained. Below is a list of amenities, anticipated opening dates and what you can expect:

Birdseye Pool – anticipated opening, week of June 21

  • COVID-19 screening, contact tracing and precautions in place for Birdseye pool
  • Online reservations must be made for Public Swimming. Online payment and reservations may be made at 
  • Change rooms to remain closed 
  • Portable toilets to be provided outside of fenced pool area for both park and pool users
  • Lifeguards to enforce physical distancing
  • Patrons are encouraged to shower at home before and after swimming
  • Swimming lessons provided as per guidelines with parent in water for students Level 3 and under
  • Safety measures have been put in place following the recommendations of the Lifesaving Society and the Durham Region Health Department

Splash Pad – anticipated opening, Friday, June 18

  • Following water test and inspection

Outdoor sports and recreational amenities – Limited to 10 people

  • Soccer fields and ball diamonds may be used for personal or organized team training sessions only
  • No team games or scrimmage games
  • Outdoor fitness classes are permitted
  • No more than 10 patrons may participate
  • Safety plans must be in place including screening and contact tracing

Scugog Memorial Public Library

  • Contactless pickup service is available
  • Returned materials are quarantined before recirculating
  • Programs will continue to be offered via Facebook and YouTube
  • Kent Farndale Gallery remains closed to the public

Scugog Summer Camp – Registration open to Durham Region Residents

Summer camps are anticipated to begin July 5. On-line registration will be the only option at this time. Please visit for a full list of available camps.

Similar to last year, camps will be run in accordance with COVID-19 protocols and safety measures:

  • Number of campers limited to four to six cohorts at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre and one to two cohorts offsite
  • Each cohort to consist of 10 to 15 campers and 2 staff to allow for break coverage and additional cleaning and sanitizing
  • Staff will be trained and practice infection prevention and control prevention measures such as cleaning and disinfecting toys, equipment and frequently touched items (e.g. doorknobs, water fountains, toilets, etc.)
  • No day trip outings
  • Encourage physical distancing between camp participants, parents/ guardians and camp participants
  • Ensure spaces shared by cohorts (e.g. washrooms) are cleaned and disinfected before and after use

Scugog Community and Recreation Centre (SCRC)

The SCRC remains closed to the general public and will open for camps July 5. In addition to camps, other recreation areas will be used to facilitate the vaccination clinic as well as heat emergency cooling station may be permitted as required.

The Township of Scugog continues to follow provincial and regional guidelines as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic. Scugog Emergency Control Group and staff are preparing reopening protocols in anticipation of Steps 2 and 3 to ensure the health and safety of patrons.
