On January 1, 2019, Ontario Regulation 397/11 of the Ontario Green Energy Act, was repealed and replaced with Ontario Regulation 507/18: Broader Public Sector: Reporting and Conservation and Demand Management Plans under the Electricity Act.  All municipalities must report their annual energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines. The Act also requires municipalities to develop a five-year energy conservation and demand management (CDM) plan.

Energy reporting and conservation planning:

  • Manages electricity use and costs
  • Identifies best practices and energy-saving opportunities
  • Evaluates results by comparing to similar facilities across the province
  • Assists in setting goals by providing a benchmark
  • Measures improvement over time
