The Township of Scugog initiated the Lake Scugog Environmental Management Plan (LSEMP) in 2004 in response to public concern about:

  • Water quality conditions
  • Excessive algae and aquatic plant growth
  • Reduction in fish populations in Lake Scugog

Since completing the LSEMP in 2010, various actions and recommendations have been and continue to be introduced to address these public concerns.

Kawartha Conservation led the development of the LSEMP. Funding for the Plan came from Region of Durham, the Township of Scugog and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Local community groups, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of the Environment, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the health unit have also contributed to this project.
