Personal information included with by-law complaints is protected by to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protections of Privacy Act. File a complaintThe Chief Building Offical looks into complaints they receive and confirms they are valid. Once a Building By-law (45-18) violation is confirmed, a Building Official seek voluntary compliance with our Building By-law by issuing a notice. If this does not work, the next step includes a an Order to Comply and or legal charges. Written complaints must be forwarded to the municipality; staff will not initiate an investigation without first receiving the complaint in writing. File a complaintThe By-law Enforcement Office looks into complaints they receive and confirms they are valid. Once a by-law violation is confirmed, the By-law Enforcement Office will strive to obtain voluntary compliance with our by-laws through public education, and mediation. If this does not work, the next step includes a Notice, an Order Requiring Compliance or legal charges. Written complaints must be forwarded to the municipality; while the municipality will offer assistance and direction with respect to a By-law concern over the phone; staff will not initiate an investigation without first receiving the complaint in writing. Insurance Claim |
Making a claim against a municipalityIf you believe that the Township of Scugog has been negligent in its maintenance of municipal facilities, roads, sidewalks, storm sewers, or parks, which has caused you injury or damage to your property, you can file a notice of claim against the Township of Scugog. What to consider when making a claimWe recommend you consult your insurance company or insurance representative first, for advice on how to deal with your injury or damage. Your insurance coverage may be more extensive than what you can recover from the municipality. If your insurer believes the Township of Scugog is responsible for your damages, they may seek compensation against the Township of Scugog on your behalf. The Township of Scugog only provides consideration of your claim if it is legally responsible for your damage. Limitations and timelinesThere may be limitation periods and other procedural timelines that apply to your claim. You should consult your own legal counsel or insurer as required. Notice of understandingThe use of profanity, abuse, threats, or bullying may result in the examiner, independent adjuster or municipal staff assigned to the claim being unable to provide any further contact, support, or consideration of your claim.
