Persons elected to office during this election will be elected for a period commencing November 15, 2022 until November 14, 2026.
Candidate Information

Who can be a candidate?

 A person is entitled to be a candidate for mayor or councillor if he or she:
  • Is a resident of the Township of Scugog, or an owner or tenant of land in the Township of Scugog, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
  • Is a Canadian citizen;
  • Is at least 18 years old; and
  • Is not legally prohibited from voting

Who cannot be a candidate?

  • An employee of the municipality unless they take an unpaid leave of absence beginning the day they are nominated and resign if elected to the office
  • A judge of any court
  • A member of the Provincial Legislature, the Federal House of Commons or Senate who has not resigned from their office by the close of nominations. Proof of resignation must be provided by the close of nominations or the Clerk will not certify the nomination
  • A candidate who failed to file the necessary financial statement(s) in the last municipal election or by-election.

 Nominations

The nomination period for the 2022 Municipal & School Board Elections has closed.

Nominations in the Township of Scugog for the 2022 Municipal Election, which will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022, will be accepted commencing on Monday, May 2, 2022, for the following list of elected offices by submitting the prescribed forms to the Office of the Clerk before 2 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022.
Appointments are required and can be arranged by emailing elections@scugog.ca

Regional Councillor One (1) member to be elected by all electors in the Township of Scugog.

One (1) member to be elected by all electors in the Region of Durham.

English Public: English Language Durham District School Board

One (1) trustee to be elected by English Public School Electors to represent the Townships of Scugog, Uxbridge and Brock.

English Separate: English Language Durham Catholic District School Board

 

One (1) Trustee to be elected by all English Catholic School Electors to represent the combined area of the Townships of Scugog, Uxbridge and Brock.

French Separate: Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir

One (1) Trustee to be elected by all French Catholic Electors in the areas of the Region of Durham-Peterborough-Kawartha-Clarington.

 Nomination Procedures

The nomination period for the 2022 Municipal & School Board Elections has closed.

Nominations are required to be submitted on the prescribed forms and shall be filed IN PERSON or by an AGENT at the Clerk’s office, Township of Scugog Municipal Administration Building, 181 Perry Street, Port Perry, Ontario, L9L 1A7, during normal office hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) commencing on May 2, 2022. The last date to file a nomination form is Friday, August 19, 2022 (Nomination Day) between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. *Appointments are required when filing nomination papers.

Each filed Nomination Paper – Form 1 must be accompanied by at least 25 endorsement signatures on the Endorsement of Nomination – Form 2 and the prescribed nomination fee ($200 – Mayor and $100 – all other positions). No person who proposes to be a candidate may solicit or accept contributions for election purposes or incur campaign expenses until a Nomination Paper – Form 1 has been filed.
