2018 Candidate Financial Statements

Each candidate who filed a nomination for the 2018 Municipal Election was required to file a Financial Statement (Form 4) with the Clerk in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, no later than Friday March 29th, 2019 at 2pm. These financial statements are public documents and are legally required to be made available for inspection and scrutiny on the Town website.

A candidate must file a separate financial statement (and auditor's report, if applicable) for each office in which he/she was nominated, even if he/she later withdrew.

An elector who is concerned about a candidate's election finances and wishes to challenge them can file a compliance audit.

Notice of Nominations – 2018 Municipal Election

Nominations for the 2018 Municipal Election will be accepted for Mayor, Regional Councillor, Ward Councillors (5), Regional Chair and School Trustees commencing May 1, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. and closing on July 27, 2018 at 2 p.m. Persons elected to office during this election will be elected for a period commencing December 1, 2018 until November 14, 2022.

Nominations in the Township of Scugog for the 2018 Municipal Election, which will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, will be accepted for the following list of elected offices by completing the prescribed form in the Office of the Clerk.

Offices to be Elected

English Separate: English Language Durham Catholic District School Board

One (1) Trustee to be elected by all English Catholic School Electors to represent the combined area of the Townships of Scugog, Uxbridge and Brock.

Who can be a candidate?

A person is entitled to be a candidate for mayor or councillor if he or she:

  • Is a resident of the Township of Scugog, or an owner or tenant of land in the Township of Scugog, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
  • Is a Canadian citizen;
  • Is at least 18 years old; and
  • Is not legally prohibited from voting

Who cannont be a candidate?

  • An employee of the municipality unless they take an unpaid leave of absence beginning the day they are nominated and resign if elected to the office
  • A judge of any court
  • A member of the Provincial Legislature, the Federal House of Commons or Senate who has not resigned from their office by the close of nominations. Proof of resignation must be provided by the close of nominations or the Clerk will not certify the nomination
  • A candidate who failed to file the necessary financial statement(s) in the last municipal election or by-election.

Nomination Procedures

Nominations are required to be submitted on the prescribed forms and shall be filed in person or by an agent at the Clerk’s office, Township of Scugog Municipal Administration Building, 181 Perry Street, Port Perry, Ontario, L9L 1A7, during normal office hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) commencing May 1, 2018. The last date to file a nomination form is Friday, July 27, 2018 (Nomination Day) between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
