2023 Operating Budget Virtual Open House – March 6 at 6:30p.m.

Join us for the 2023 Scugog Operating Budget Virtual Open House on Monday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. The Township Operating Budget outlines our spending plan for the upcoming year in order to deliver services to our residents. This includes the day-to-day costs of running the township:

  • Fire and Emergency services
  • Township Facilities (e.g., Scugog Arena, Blackstock Recreation Complex, Birdseye Aquatic Facility, Scugog Public Library, Scugog Shores Museum and Town Hall)
  • Recreation programs
  • Road maintenance
  • By-law enforcement
  • Transfers to reserves

These costs are covered by the Township of Scugog’s portion from property taxes – when paying property taxes, 55% goes to the Region of Durham and 14% goes to the School Board, making the Township of Scugog’s share of your property tax bill 31%.

This year, property taxpayers will see an increase of $10.57 per month for the Scugog portion on the average residential property value of $432,000 (please note the dollar amount of increases is reliant on your property value). Of the $10.57, $5.25 of that will go towards infrastructure for capital such as roads and the remaining balance is to provide services such as snow clearing, grass cutting in parks, programs and more.

To review a copy of the draft budget and/or to ask a question about the operating budget, visit my.scugog.ca/budget or email budget@scugog.ca. Questions will be addressed at the virtual open house or by email.

The virtual meeting will be hosted through Microsoft Teams and livestreamed through the township's website. Those wishing to participate in the virtual open house are asked to contact clerks@scugog.ca by 1 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2023. This will allow time for you to be added to the meeting site.

Should you be unable to access a computer, please call 905.985.7346 ext. 118 to speak with a Staff Member in the Office of the Township Clerk.

Quote:

“While no one is happy with increased costs, we all recognize that inflation and other external pressures have impacted the cost of doing business and no one wants to see reduced levels of service. As staff we have put forward for consideration a budget that considers all the inflationary and external pressures, to ensure that budgetary increases maintain our levels of services for Scugog residents.” Laura Barta, Director of Finance
