Blackstock Arena temporarily closed due to an electrical fire
Scugog – On Monday, November 17, at approximately 5 p.m., Scugog Fire, supported by Uxbridge Fire and Durham Regional Police, attended the Blackstock Arena (Church Street) for the report of a fire.
The fire began on the exterior of the building, and an early assessment indicates localized interior smoke and water damage in the arena's ice pad area. An electrician and other contractors will be on site with staff today to assess the extent of repairs and begin remediation. The ice pad will remain temporarily closed, and an update will follow once the full assessment and repair plan are in place.
The fire was readily determined to be minor in nature, caused by an exterior electrical issue, and the Office of the Fire Marshal will not need to be notified.
The hall remains open, and ice user groups will be notified. For general questions regarding bookings, please email recreation@scugog.ca
Quote Scugog Fire Chief, Mike Matthews:
“A very serious fire was avoided due to Township staff on site at the Blackstock arena, becoming aware of a potential fire and calling 911. Our crews arrived on scene and quickly went to work containing the fire and limiting damage. Through all of these efforts, recognizing an issue and early notification of 911, Blackstock Arena is expected to be back in use for our community in a short amount of time.”
