Grand Opening of New Palmer Park Playground

Township of Scugog Council and staff are excited to announce the completion of the new inclusive playground at Palmer Park.

Please join us on Saturday, June 24th for the grand opening of the Palmer Park Playground. Mayor Wotten and members of Council will be in attendance to officially open the park.

When:  Saturday, June 24, 2023, 10:00 am-12:00 pm. Official ceremony at 11:00 am.

Where: Palmer Park, 175 Water Street, Port Perry

The project is part of the revitalization work identified in the Township’s Waterfront Action Plan. The new playground provides an inclusive space to bring children and youth from the Township together in a safe, outdoor setting that will provide both physical and mental health benefits.

This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). The Township of Scugog is very grateful for the funding, which has made this inclusive playground possible.

“Congratulations to the Township of Scugog on the opening of your new inclusive playground at Palmer Park. The one-of-a-kind park that you have built will be a great place for youth and children of all abilities to play and enjoy for years,” said the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). “The Government of Canada is thrilled to support projects that builds communities and gives people a place to stay active.”

Last spring, we received significant feedback and suggestions from the community and this information was used to develop the new playground design. The new playground is nautically themed and includes:

  • Rubber play surface
  • Junior climber with accessible ramps and Rock’n Ship
  • Senior climber with 8’ slide and monkey bars
  • Quiet Grove
  • Zipline
  • Six swings
  • Spinning climber

Please note that as parking is limited, we encourage you to walk, roll or bike to the park.

We hope to see you there!
