Notice of Construction

Oil & Grit Separator – Joe Fowler Park

March 2023

The Township of Scugog has contracted Main Line Water & Sewer Company to install an oil and grit separator in Joe Fowler Park, near Parking Lot # 2 Fowler on Water Street. The work will include excavation to install an oil and grit separator mid-pipe on the existing storm sewer leading to the lake. Oil and grit separators are underground storage tanks designed to protect waterways from suspended sediment, free oils, heavy particulates, floating debris and pollutants that attach to particles. This oil and grit separator is being installed with support from Kawartha Conservation as part of the Lake Scugog Enhancement Project to mitigate the stormwater inputs into the lake.

The work is scheduled to begin March 8, 2023. The majority of the construction is anticipated to be finished by the end of March, with the final restoration to the landscaping commencing in the spring when the weather is favourable for sodding.

During the construction period, the northern part of the parking lot will not be accessible as it will be occupied by construction equipment and materials to facilitate this project.

Project updates, traffic routes, and other pertinent information will be posted on the Township’s website under Live and Play, Roads and Sidewalks, Notices of Construction. Additionally, you may wish to follow our Facebook page or Twitter account for additional updates.

Please note in addition to this work three trees beside the Joe Fowler Picnic Shelter are scheduled for removal to accommodate the installation of the new shelter.
