Notice of a Public Meeting to Consider a Proposed Telecommunication Tower

Purpose and Effect of the Proposal:

Shared Tower Inc. is proposing to construct a new 60 metre self-support tower structure designed to support multiple cellular carriers at 23400 Simcoe Street. The subject property is located on the west side of Simcoe Street. The agent has identified a need for improved telecommunications network capacity in the existing area. The intent of the proposed tower is to strengthen the telecommunications network in order to better support increased demands for consumer connectivity, the digital economy, and health and safety measures in the community, and increase network capacity. The proposed tower is to be located to the north of the existing buildings on the subject property.

Public Meeting:

The Council of the Township of Scugog is holding a Public Meeting to provide interested parties with the opportunity to learn more about the proposal, make comments, and provide additional information relative to the proposal before any recommendations/decisions are made on the application. This public meeting will be held on:

In Person: Use the rear entrance located between the original building and the south wing and take the elevator or stairs to the 2nd floor. Parking is available at the rear of the building.

The Township offices and Council Chambers are a mask-friendly environment. For the public, wearing a mask will be optional. Please have respect for patrons and staff who continue to wear a mask. Please refrain from attending the meeting and visiting Township facilities if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Please note that we cannot guarantee the exact time that this matter will be discussed as it will depend on the number of items on the meeting agenda and Committee’s consideration of preceding agenda items.

Comments or Questions?

Members of the public wishing to address the Committee through electronic means rather than appear in person are required to submit their request to speak to this matter no later than 4:30 p.m. on December 8, 2023 by contacting the Office of the Township Clerk at clerks@scugog.ca with your full name, address and the item on the agenda. This will allow time for you to be added to the meeting.

To Be Notified of the Decision: If you wish to be notified of the recommendation/ decision of the Township of Scugog on the proposed telecommunication tower, you must make a written request to the Office of the Township Clerk, Township of Scugog, 181 Perry Street, Port Perry, ON L9L 1A7.

Approval Authority: In accordance with the Federal Telecommunication Act, Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada is the approval authority responsible for regulating radio-telecommunication facilities. The applicant is required to consult with the local municipality as the land use authority.

Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act: Information will be collected in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. All comments will become part of the public record except for personal information.
