Notice of Study Commencement – Scugog Parking Enforcement and Permitting Strategy

Scugog – Parking plays a crucial role in our everyday lives.  As the Township of Scugog grows and thrives, so does the need for parking. Over the past several years, the increase in parking demand within the Township, particularly in the downtown core of Port Perry and waterfront areas, has demonstrated the need to address these parking challenges. To do so, the Township has initiated a Parking Enforcement and Permitting Strategy; this study will directly impact residents, businesses, and visitors.

This Parking Enforcement and Permitting Strategy will set out a comprehensive implementation plan and define how a parking permit program can be used to manage parking demand. More specifically, the main area of focus for this study will be exploring the feasibility of a permitting program that would allow for extended parking use on a registered-permit basis. In practice, this could allow anyone looking to park on Township of Scugog roads or parking lots for more than three hours the option to purchase an extended parking permit, overnight parking included. This overnight option would, however, be impacted by weather and may not be available in the case of snowfall events, as roads need to be as clear as possible in those instances to not impact plowing and other winter operations.

The strategy is intended to optimize parking resources, support economic development, and enhance livability. The Township has retained R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited to lead the study. You can view the area of the study below:
