Scugog Council approves purchase and installation of new ice plant for Blackstock Arena
Scugog - The Township has taken a step toward securing the future of the Blackstock Arena, following Council’s approval to purchase and install a permanent refrigeration plant.
The project is supported by the Blackstock Minor Hockey community with their efforts to secure a $50,000 contribution from Kraft Hockeyville. The total cost of a permanent refrigeration plant is estimated at $1 million, and an essential upgrade to keep the arena open and operational for the community.
The newly formed Blackstock Arena Planning and Development Committee has committed to fundraising 20% of the cost for the new plant, which includes the $50,000 from Kraft Hockeyville. The balance will be funded by the Township by using the Development Charges Reserve Fund and the Major Facilities Reserve.
Township staff will now begin the procurement process for the new system.
Together, these efforts represent a strong commitment from Council, community volunteers, and funding partners to preserve a vital community facility.
Quote:
“I want to thank the Blackstock Minor Hockey group and the broader community for their strong advocacy in support of the arena and for securing the Kraft Hockeyville funding. Their ongoing commitment to fundraising demonstrates the power of community groups working in partnership with the Township to invest in and enhance our shared facilities. This new ice plant helps secure the long-term future of the arena, ensuring it continues to serve residents for years to come.”
