Scugog Delivering on $8.7 Million in Infrastructure Projects

For Immediate Release

At Council on October 28, 2024, staff presented the 2025 Final Capital Budget, and 2026 to 2029 Capital Forecast. There are 52 individual projects identified in 2025, and 150 projects forecasted in 2026 to 2029.  Due to the careful management of Scugog’s dedicated reserves in conjunction with the Township’s asset management plan, progress is being made in many areas across Scugog.

The Township of Scugog is the second largest geographic area of the eight (8) regional municipalities with 413 centreline kilometres (km) of local roads under the purview of a small but dedicated staff compliment. In addition to the local network, Scugog also has many Regional and Provincial highways throughout Scugog that are receiving upgrades and improvements. Based on budget planning and road safety audits, improvements to roads, bridges and sidewalks have been prioritized.

Highlights of the capital program include:

  • Gravel resurfacing Township roads totaling 22.3 km
  • Surface treatment of 3.1 km, Scugog Line 6 from Marsh Hill Road to 0.5 km west of Highway 7/12
  • Surface treatment of 1.1 km, Old Scugog Road from 350 m north of Byers Road to Shirley Road
  • Union Avenue Reconstruction from King Street to Josephine Street
  • Roof Replacement of the Storage Building at 1647 Reach Street is nearing completion
  • Design for the rehabilitation of Old Simcoe Road from Queen Street to Reach Street underway
  • Design for the rehabilitation of Queen Street from Water Street to Simcoe Street and Perry Street from Queen Street to Mary Street – 2025 completion
  • Balsam Street new sidewalk and top curb construction – top asphalt to follow in 2026
  • Scugog Line 4 box culvert removal and replacement with turn-key modular steel bridge
  • Edgerton Bridge replacement – Environmental assessment and detailed design underway – construction in 2026
  • Scugog Community Recreation Centre parking lot replacement – design and tender in 2025 – construction 2026
  • Palmer Park new washroom facility opening May 2025 followed by the new splash pad opening in June 2025
  • Playground Replacement – View Lake Park
  • Building Condition Assessments for Municipal Offices, George Currey Grain Elevator/Old Mill c.1874 and Marina Café

In addition to roads, parks and bridges, pedestrian safety remains a top priority. $100,000 has been allocated for sidewalk repairs and replacement across Scugog.

Investment in improving our roads, infrastructure, facilities and new amenities like parks and trails makes up the focus of the Scugog Capital Budget and is intended to provide valuable improvements serving our Scugog residents.
