Scugog Fire Announces New Junior Fire Chief

Scugog – Scugog Fire & Emergency Services is pleased to announce that grade 3 student Mia Soutar has been selected as the 2023 Junior Fire Chief.

Mia’s contest poster illustrated her knowledge and understanding of the importance of cooking safety and included the following fire safety tips:

  • Never leave the stove on when you leave the room, always have a lid on a hot pot, keep your oven closed, always wear oven mitts.
  • Cooking safely rules!

To celebrate her accomplishment, Mia is spending the day with Scugog Firefighters and fulfilling various Junior Fire Chief duties. Residents are encouraged to follow along on Township social media accounts.

Quote:

"Fire Prevention Week is October 8-14 and the campaign, ‘cooking safety starts with you’ works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires. Scugog’s Junior Fire Chief, Mia, will assist the department in sharing this important information with her peers. Our Junior Fire Chief program is an exciting way to encourage participation in fire safety initiatives.” – Ethan Green, Fire Prevention Officer.
