Township Marks Significant Progress on Strategic Plan Priorities
Scugog – The Township of Scugog is celebrating significant progress in implementing its 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, demonstrating Council's commitment to investing in infrastructure, strengthening municipal services, supporting economic growth, protecting the environment, and building a connected and inclusive community.
A Strategic Plan Progress Report presented to Council on Monday, September 14, highlights achievements across all five Strategic Directions established by Council in 2023: Infrastructure, Sustainability, Economic Development & Tourism, Natural Environment, and Complete Community.
Through the strategic directions and 22 objectives, the Township made important strides in strengthening organizational sustainability through enhanced financial planning, improved asset management practices, technology modernization, and cybersecurity investments. The Township also continued to foster a healthy, inclusive, and connected community by improving customer service, public engagement, accessibility improvements, and digital services.
"Strategic planning helps ensure that Council's decisions and investments remain focused on the priorities that matter most to residents," said Warren Mar, Chief Administrative Officer. "The key accomplishments outlined in this report reflect the dedication of Council, staff, volunteers, community partners, and residents. Together we have made significant progress and laid the groundwork for an even stronger future for Scugog."
Public consultation undertaken during the development of the Strategic Plan consistently identified infrastructure as one of the community's highest priorities. The Township continues to invest in improvements to roads, bridges, municipal facilities, parks, recreation amenities, waterfront infrastructure, and long-term asset management.
"The Strategic Plan has helped us turn community priorities into meaningful action," said Scugog Mayor Wilma Wotten. "Residents told us they wanted to see continued investment in infrastructure, strong municipal services, economic growth, protection of our natural environment, and a connected community. This report shows the progress we have made together while also reminding us that our work on these priorities must continue."
While many strategic initiatives have been completed or advanced, work proceeds on several long-term priorities through advocacy, partnerships, funding opportunities, and ongoing initiatives.
The Strategic Plan Update demonstrates that Scugog is making meaningful progress while laying the foundation for a thriving, sustainable, and resilient future.
