Township of Scugog aware of Parkbridge Permit to Take Water application and encourages residents to submit input to MECP
Scugog – Township of Scugog staff and Council are aware of the Permit to Take Water application submitted by Parkbridge Cottage & RV Resort and are committed to voicing our residents’ concerns regarding the application.
On June 4, the Mayor and Township staff attended a public meeting with concerned residents to discuss ongoing well water issues on Scugog Island. At that meeting, it was noted that the Province of Ontario has jurisdiction for all matters involving well water in Scugog. This includes the issuance of orders and the review of applications. While the Township has no legal ability to directly address well water issues, we remain committed to doing what we can to raise residents’ concerns with the Province.
In July, staff from the Township and the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) conducted a joint compliance inspection on the Parkbridge site. While the Township’s main focus of this inspection was municipal issues, MECP staff took the opportunity to look into the wells on the property. In addition, following the June 4 public meeting, the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer met with MECP Minister Todd McCarthy to discuss issues residents have been facing with well water on the Island, and requested further MECP investigation.
The Township of Scugog also intends to formally submit its concerns regarding the Permit to Take Water to the MECP. Please note, residents are able and encouraged to submit their feedback in the same manner. We recommend visiting the permit’s posting on the Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) webpage to view the application and submit a comment. The original deadline for commenting was Friday, August 21, at 11:59 p.m., but has been extended by the Province for a further 30 days.
We understand local residents are concerned about this permit application, and we want to ensure your voices are heard. Please use the above link when voicing concerns to submit input directly through the proper channels, and for up-to-date information about the application and the timeline for submitting comments.
