Township of Scugog Burn Ban in Effect

Scugog – Please be advised a municipal-wide burn ban is in effect, starting immediately. Residents will be notified when the ban is lifted.

There will be zero tolerance for burning during the burn ban. Under Part 4 Enforcement and Penalties of the Open-Air Burning By-law 32-18, those having a fire during the burn ban can be charged under the Provincial Offences Act and will also be responsible for the costs associated with Fire Service response.

Permit holders are responsible for following Scugog burn regulations and will be notified of burn bans according to the notification method they selected when they applied for the permit. Fire Services will continue to sell burn permits during the burn ban which can be used once the ban has been lifted.

Quick Facts:

• Outdoor fire pits, burn barrels, chimineas, and other portable open air fire devices are generally intended for backyard bonfires and are not designed for cooking. These items are not permitted to be used during a burn ban.
• Outdoor appliances listed for use in Canada that utilize natural gas, electricity, propane, or charcoal as a fuel supply are permitted to be used during the burn ban.
