Update from Statutory Public Meeting, Planning and Community Affairs (PCA) – June 15, 2026

At PCA, we held a Statutory Public Meeting for a proposed development located at 1520, 1540, and 1580 Reach Street. It is important to note that all development applications must proceed through a prescribed planning process that is legislated by the Province of Ontario. The Township of Scugog is within the Greenbelt Plan area and Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan area, and development opportunities are limited to pre-determined areas within our Urban Boundary set by the Region’s and the Township’s Official Plan. Diversifying development to include industrial, commercial, and residential helps balance tax collection more evenly across sectors and reduces heavy reliance on the residential tax base.

These applications are for an area of Scugog that is fully within Scugog’s Urban Boundary as per the Region’s and Township’s Official Plan. The applications propose a broader range of uses, including single-detached dwellings, townhouses, mixed-use commercial, parks and open space, industrial, and long-term care, to serve our community. These applications propose a range of 900 – 1350 residential units through phased development over several years.

Consultation is the first step in the process. These applications have been circulated, and Township staff will review comments from the public, agencies, and internal departments.  A recommendation report on the proposal will be brought forward at a future Council meeting, once all comments have been fully considered by Township staff.  To remain informed about the project, including future consultation by the applicant and future recommendation reports from staff, please email planning@scugog.ca with the subject Reach Street. Please visit the My Scugog website for more information on this and other active projects in the Township of Scugog. If you were unable to attend the meeting, the livestream recording is available through our Council & Committee Calendar.
