$1,000,000 in Investment towards maintaining 192km of Gravel Roads is underway in Scugog

The Township of Scugog is responsible for the maintenance of 192 km of gravel roads. Full re-grading of our roads occurs twice a year, once in the late May/early June when the frost comes out of the ground and then again in late October/early November before the frost sets in.

The condition of gravel roads at this time of year is largely dependent on weather conditions. Our staff have been out performing minor surface repairs, as is the seasonal priority, to help prevent further deterioration of the gravel surface. However, it's important to proceed with caution; excessive touch-ups can lead to additional damage by reducing the gravel base. With continued mild temperatures, increased rutting is expected as vehicles travel over the roads. Additional maintenance will be carried out as weather conditions permit.

As always, we ask residents for their patience this time of year as we schedule work based on the weather conditions.

On a positive note, the Township’s continued investment in road rehabilitation—particularly gravel roads is delivering strong results. In 2024, $1,000,000 was allocated to resurface 22 km of gravel roads. Over the past five years, a total of $4.5 million has been invested, resulting in the resurfacing of 117 km. This means that 60% of our gravel road network has been improved in just five years.
