Council Highlights - February 2026

General Purpose and Administration Committee – February 2, 2026

  • Director Barta advised that 2026 Interim Property Tax Bills were mailed last week, with installment dates of February 23 and April 23, 2026.
  • Director Taylor reported that snow removal operations will be taking place in the downtown area and will be completed by the morning of February 4.
  • Director Bowers announced a "Your Voice, Your Fairgrounds" community pop-in event at the Nestleton Community Centre on February 3 between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
  • Chief Mathews noted that by-law staff met with consultants to talk about parking enforcement and data collection methods. An engagement plan for community feedback will be presented via a report to Council in the coming months
  • presentation was heard from R.V.A. Associates regarding Water Street Sanitary Sewage Pumping Station (SSPS) Design and Construction
  • presentation was heard from Uxbridge Animal Control regarding the 2025 Year-End Animal Shelter Report
  • Region of Durham Land Transfer Request on Reach Street across the Fairgrounds Frontage Report was received by committee, and it was decided that Durham continue discussions with the Township and attend a future meeting of Council, prior to the summer recess, to further discuss the matter.
  • Blackstock Recreation Complex Truss Repairs and Roof Replacement Design Award report was received by committee. Contract was awarded for the Blackstock Recreation Complex Truss Repairs and Roof Replacement design to Sense Engineering (GTA) Inc., being the highest scoring proponent at a cost of $25,800 inclusive of net HST rebate.

Council Meeting – February 23, 2026

  • The Recreation Department was recognized for the well attended Family Day event at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre on February 17, which saw over 1,000 registrants.
  • Fire Chief Matthews reported the completion of volunteer firefighter recruit training, welcoming two new firefighters: William Green (Station 61, Port Perry) and Kyle Simms (Station 62, Caesarea). An additional 18 recruits were selected for training.
  • Presentation was received from Region of Durham regarding Durham Agricultural Advisory Committee (DAAC)
  • Compliance Audit Committee Member Appointments Report was received by council and members were appointed.
  • Scugog Tourism Visitor Growth Plan Update was received and endorsed by Council and staff was directed to lead the implementation of the plan and assist with grant opportunities.
  • Blackstock Agricultural Society Lease Renewal was received by Council. Staff have been authorized to execute the lease agreement for the land at 3416 & 3440 Church Street.
  • Appointment of Library Board Member report was received by Council and a board member was appointed.
