Council Highlights – September 2025

Scugog – The Township of Scugog held various public meetings throughout the month of September. Below are some highlights of what was discussed at these meetings:

General Purpose and Administration Committee – September 8, 2025

  • Mayor Wotten, Members of Council, and CAO Warren Mar recognized the 2025 Fore Scugog Youth Initiative Grant recipients and expressed appreciation for the positive impact in raising funds to support local youth programs. $14,010 was distributed across 8 youth-based groups; a full list of recipients can be found on pages 24 and 25 of the September 8 agenda.
  • A presentation on the Baagwating Stormwater Management Pond Feasibility Study was received by Council. This project will provide options for enhanced filtration to support a healthy Lake Scugog. Staff will report back to Council in November.
  • 2026 Budget Survey and 2026 Council Budget Requests were presented to Council. At the October 6 meeting, the 2026 Fees and Charges were presented for approval. The next steps for the 2026 Capital and Operating Budgets include:
    • Draft Capital and Operating Budget and 4 year Capital Forecast circulated to Council – October 27
    • Budget Open House – we will announce date and time when confirmed
    • Final 2026 Operating & Capital Budgets presented to Council – December 15

  • New Scugog-Uxbridge Animal Shelter Council approved a trade-by-trade procurement model for construction, which allows each trade (i.e. electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.) to be contracted and managed directly by the Township of Uxbridge as well as a hired project manager. $85,000 was allocated for the commencement of the project.
  • Parking Enforcement and Permitting Strategy Contract Awarded to R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited in the amount of $46,297.81 (excl HST). This scope of this project includes reviewing on and off-street parking in downtown Port Perry and determining available spaces vs demand to ensure parking enforcement and permitting can fit the needs of the community.
