Scugog – In a move to enhance service delivery and streamline operations, the Township of Scugog has restructured several departments to foster greater collaboration and efficiency across municipal services. These changes will allow for more centralized processes and stronger cooperation between departments.
Effective Monday, July 7, several changes to service delivery processes and staff alignment were implemented at the municipality. The Community Services Department—which previously oversaw Parks, Recreation, Culture, and Corporate Communications—has been dissolved, with its Parks and Recreation functions merging with Public Works. Corporate Communications, Tourism and Culture are now paired with Strategic Planning and Economic Development.
The Township of Scugog's new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) views the restructuring as a necessary step to boost the effectiveness of corporate operations. “Following a comprehensive analysis of Scugog’s service delivery, capital projects, corporate processes, and staff functions, Council approved a series of changes,” stated Warren Mar, Chief Administrative Officer. “These measures are intended to enhance internal coordination and deliver more responsive and effective municipal services to residents.” This shift better supports projects, portfolios, and dedicates staff resources to align more closely with Council’s strategic priorities.
Key Changes at a Glance:
- Parks and Recreation has merged with Public Works to form the new Public Works and Recreation Department. This integration aims to centralize infrastructure and community programming. A new Capital Project Coordinator role has been introduced to support asset management and accelerate capital project delivery.
- The newly formed Communications and Strategic Projects department will deliver Corporate Communications, Strategic Projects, including strategic plans, Economic Development, Tourism and Culture, which also welcomes the Scugog Shores Museum Village and Archives.
- By-Law Services has been temporarily reassigned to Fire and Emergency Services for a 12-month review period, after which a permanent placement will be determined.
