Council Highlights - January 2026
General Purpose and Administration Committee – January 12, 2026
- Members of Council attended the Port Perry Agricultural Society Annual General Meeting & Dinner on January 9, 2026, and extended best wishes to newly elected President Paul Puckrin.
- Director Taylor announced that virtual tours for Township‑run recreation facilities are now live on our Book or Rent a Facility page.
- Fire Chief Matthews reminded the public of the risks associated with lithium‑ion battery fires. To help prevent batteries from overheating, residents should only use approved chargers and follow OFM safety guidelines. Additional lithium-ion battery safety resources and information can be found on the Charged for Life website.
- CAO and Director of Development Services provided a report and update on Development Application Process Review.
- Manager of Parks and Recreation provided a report to council to announce the 2026 Township of Scugog Sports Hall of Fame (SHOF) Inductees.
Council Meeting – January 26, 2026
- Mayor Wilma Wotten announced the Council appointment of new Economic Development Advisory committee member David McCullum and the Appointment of Livestock Investigator Rob Boomhour.
- Council announced that the Scugog Environmental and Climate Change Advisory Committee 2026 calendar is now available free-of-charge at the municipal office reception desk while supplies last.
- Councillor thanked the Public Works and Parks staff involved in snow removal for their great work with the challenging winter.
- Mayor, Council, and staff attended the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) annual conference from January 18 to 20, 2026. Photos from the event can be found on Township of Scugog social media pages.
- Congratulations was sent to Beyond Tartan and Paul Breeze for organizing an exceptional Robbie Burns Dinner on Friday, January 23, 2026.
- Council heard a presentation from Jeff Fleischmann regarding the Port Perry/Currie Grain Elevator Restoration Project along with a report received from CAO Mar. Council voted to approve the commencement of the project and the execution of an MOU.
