Leadership and Volunteering

There are a variety of opportunities for youth to volunteer within the Township of Scugog and other community organizations.

To volunteer with our camps or recreation programs youth must attend a volunteer orientation and complete a volunteer application. All participants are required to participate in a free volunteer orientation prior to applying. Youth can register online for any of the currently available orientation dates. To receive a volunteer application form please email recreation@scugog.ca

The Red Cross Babysitting Course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. Course content includes: responsible leadership, childhood behaviour, creating safe environments, caring for children, and a large emphasis on first aid skills. Participants will need to bring a doll or stuffed animal with them, and will receive a Babysitting Manual.

Real-world scenarios often call on children to respond to challenges. The Red Cross Stay Safe program teaches applicable and age-appropriate skills while increasing and reinforcing a youth’s capacity to improve their own safety. Course content includes being responsible and accountable, the importance of following rules, safety skills at home and in the community, how to prepare, recognize and respond to unexpected situations, and first aid skills. Participants will receive a Stay Safe! workbook.

Get active in your community and try something new. Many opportunities exist to volunteer within our recreation and camp programs. Anyone that wishes to volunteer must register for one of the orientation days. Due to the high interest in volunteering, each participant must enroll in this program before applying to volunteer. Volunteers must be 13 years old.

Fitness

Select adult fitness programs also welcome youth ages 12+ to join in for these upbeat and energetic classes.
