The Voters’ List and How to Update Your Information
Elections Ontario is responsible for maintaining the Permanent Register of Electors for Ontario, commonly known as the Register or voters’ list. The voters’ list is a list of individuals eligible to vote in provincial and local municipal elections in Ontario. You can use Elections Ontario’s Voter Registration application to confirm, update or add your information if you:
• have changed your name or address
• own or rent a new property
• no longer own or rent a property
• want to remove your information
If you or your spouse own or rent property other than your home address in Ontario, you may be eligible to vote in more than one municipal election. Visit Elections Ontario's website to learn more about voter information, and other options including:
• removing yourself from the Register
• removing a deceased person from the Register
• adding yourself to the list of Future Voters (if you’re under 18 years of age)
School Support Designation
The designation determines which school board trustee candidates appear on a voter’s ballot. In Scugog, voters can support trustees for the English Public, English Separate (Catholic), French Public, French Separate (Catholic).
If no designation is selected, school support defaults to the English public system. The designation does not affect property taxes but is used to determine school board representation during municipal elections. It applies to both property owners and tenants, regardless of whether they have children enrolled in school.
Voter information maintained by Elections Ontario, along with school support data from MPAC, is used to help compile the preliminary list of electors for the municipal and school board elections.
*Voters who missed the June 1, 2026 deadline to update their school support designation with MPAC can still review their information online through mpac.ca. If your school support designation requires updating, please contact Township of Scugog Election Staff at election@scugog.ca or 905-985-2791 to discuss how a revision can be made during the election revision period.
Students
For local municipal elections, students are entitled to vote in multiple municipalities if their permanent home and temporary student home are in different municipalities or Territory Without Municipal Organization areas. Students can update or add their “home address” to the Register as their permanent family home and list their temporary student home as an additional property they, or their spouse, own or rent.
